Wayflyer, Ireland’s latest technology company to reach Unicorn status, has today
announced a new three-year brand partnership with Major Champion and Irish
Ryder Cup star Shane Lowry.
This strategic partnership will see Lowry begin his role as a global
brand ambassador for Wayflyer beginning at this week’s prestigious Masters
Tournament at Augusta National in the U.S. As part of the partnership Lowry
will wear the Wayflyer logo on the left chest position of all professional golf
apparel, in addition to hosting a variety of corporate golf and promotional
events for Wayflyer’s growing client and partner base across the U.S, Europe
and Asia.
Lowry, Winner of the 2019 Open Championship and who made his Ryder Cup
debut for Europe last September, is a multiple European Tour and PGA Tour
winner and one of Ireland’s most highly respected and popular global sports
personalities.
Wayflyer’s partnership with Lowry comes at a
busy and exciting time for the revenue-based financing and growth platform for
eCommerce businesses. In the past year alone, the business has closed a Series
B round of $150m, seeing it valued at $1.6bn, making it Ireland’s sixth ever
unicorn. Lowry was also an investor in this funding round, alongside a range of
venture capital firms. Alongside this, Wayflyer’s number of colleagues has risen
from 40 at the start of 2021, to over 300 now, and the business has expanded
into a range of new markets globally, including Spain and the
Netherlands.
The fast-growing fintech also recently opened an office in Atlanta and
signed partnerships with companies including Adobe, Sezzle and eBay U.K.
Jack Pierse, Co-Founder and CFO at Wayflyer said, “The entire Wayflyer team is so excited that Shane has come on board
as our global brand ambassador, and his support will be incredibly valuable as
we continue to grow across the world and enter new markets. Shane’s commitment
to his sport, his hard-working attitude and occasional Irish cheekiness mirrors
what we stand for at Wayflyer – he’s the ideal partner for us.
“Our clients and colleagues can look forward to many exciting events
with Shane in the future and we wish him the very best of luck at this week’s
iconic Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia where he will wear the Wayflyer
logo for the first time.”
Commenting on the announcement Shane Lowry said, “I take huge pride
in flying the flag for Ireland everywhere I go to compete around the world.
Throughout my career I’ve been very fortunate to partner with many Irish
companies and brands who have achieved global success. This partnership
with Wayflyer is particularly exciting for me, as it is another truly
astonishing Irish success story, featuring a young, talented and committed
workforce achieving extraordinary things on the world stage.”
“My new partnership with the Wayflyer brand
and the many great people across the organization is a great fit for me and I
look forward to the journey ahead. The company’s meteoric rise,
coupled with its commitment to being the best in its field globally, aligns
with my own ambition of competing for more Major Championships, winning
tournaments and trying to become the best player I can be in the coming years.”
