Mireia Prat, campeona del Santander Golf Tour San Sebastián

 

Mireia Prat ha logrado su cuarta victoria en el Santander Golf Tour, tras una jornada final de 71 golpes. Un bogey al inicio de la vuelta, despertó a Prat, que encadenó cuatro birdies en los hoyos 5, 6, 8 y 9, y un bogey en el hoyo siete, y permitió a Mireia acabar los nueve primeros hoyos, con menos dos en el día, y líder en solitario por delante de Paz Marfá y Maho Hayakawa.

 

En los nueve segundos hoyos, Paz alternó bogeys y birdies, para finalmente acabar en tercera posición, al igual que la jugadora local Irene Rollán, cuyo caddie esta semana ha sido Javi Urquizo, ex caddie de Carlota Ciganda. En el penúltimo partido, Mireia tropezó en los hoyos 12 y 13, para luego conseguir un importantísimo birdie en el hoyo 15 que le permitió llegar al tee del hoyo 18 con tres golpes de ventaja sobre Amaia Latorre, que terminó segunda en solitario. Prat, a pesar del bogey en el hoyo 18, par tres, logró con una vuelta de par (71 golpes) su segunda victoria en tierras donostiarras tras su victoria en 2019 en Basozabal.

Prat se mostró radiante tras la entrega de premios: “No conocía el campo y me ha encantado. Ayer fue un día muy diferente porque sopló más el viento. Han sido dos días muy exigentes, pero he fallado muy poco y eso ha sido la clave. El único pero que me pongo es el putt, pero he jugado muy sólida y estoy muy contenta en general”.

La vitoriana Amaia Latorre fue segunda en solitario, y la jugadora local Irene Rollán y la catalana Paz Marfá, fueron terceras, con un resultado total de más cuatro. La madrileña María Herráez y la inglesa Ana Dawson completaron las cinco primeras posiciones. La marbellí Laura Gómez, becada por "Marca Marbella", quedó  en el 10º puesto con 150 golpes( 78 y 72 ) a 7 de la ganadora.     

La siguiente prueba del Santander Golf Tour será en Burgos, los días 19 y 20 de abril en Golf Lerma.

Protagonismo europeo en el regreso del LPGA a EE.UU.

 

La francesa Céline Boutier se impuso a la inglesa Georgia Hall en un desempate que decidió la ganadora del LPGA Drive On Championship, y ambas se sitúan al frente de la clasificación mundial para formar el equipo europeo de la Solheim Cup 2023

Equipo europeo  Equipo estadounidense   El LPGA Drive On Championship, torneo que ha significado el retorno del LPGA a EE.UU. después de su periplo por Asia, ha tenido un claro dominio europeo con la francesa Céline Boutier y la inglesa Georgia Hall jugándose el título en un emocionante play off de desempate.   Al final, el triunfo fue para la jugadora gala, con lo que se hizo con su tercer título en el LPGA tras el ISPS Handa Vic Open de 2019 y el ShopRite Classic de 2021, y se convirtió en la golfista francesa con más victorias en este circuito.   Con este desenlace, Boutier y Hall se han situado, además, primera y segunda respetivamente de la clasificación mundial que dará derecho a entrar en el equipo europeo de la Solheim Cup 2023, desbancando del primer puesto a la irlandesa Leona Maguire, que ha pasado a la tercera posición.   En cuanto al ránking del LET, esta semana no ha habido ningún torneo en el Circuito Europeo Femenino, así que Ana Peláez continúa en tercera posición por detrás de las suecas Maja Stark y Linn Grant.   Discreta actuación de las hermanas Korda Por lo que respecta a las clasificaciones para el equipo de EE.UU. de la Solheim Cup 2023, las hermanas Korda siguen al frente de uno y otro ranking a pesar de no haber tenido una buena actuación en el LPGA Drive On Championship.   Nelly Korda, primera de la clasificación del LPGA, concluyó en el puesto 57, lo que le permite continuar con una cómoda ventaja sobre Lilia Vu, quien ha desbancado de la segunda posición a Lexi Thompson.   El torneo disputado en Arizona fue muy distinto para Jessica Korda, ya que al no pasar el corte, no ha sumado puntos y ha visto como su diferencia con Allisen Corpuz en la clasificación mundial se ha reducido a 26 décimas de punto.   Finalmente, cabe destacar que la mejor golfista estadounidense en el LPGA Drive On Championship ha sido Ally Ewing, tras concluir en quinta posición, seguida de la capitana del equipo de EE.UU. de la Solheim Cup, Stacy Lewis, y Lilia Vu, quienes compartieron la séptima plaza.

Prestigious Hong Kong Open to make eagerly-anticipated return to the Asian Tour in November 2023

 

 

- Historic event returns to Hong Kong Golf Club after four-year hiatus as part of burgeoning International Series -

The Hong Kong Open, one of the Asian Tour’s most iconic golf tournaments steeped in rich history, will make its long-awaited return this year to its traditional home the Hong Kong Golf Club (HKGC), in Fanling, and in a landmark development will be part of the burgeoning International Series.   The tournament, which is the oldest professional sporting event in Hong Kong, will offer a lucrative purse of US$2 million and will be played on the HKGC’s acclaimed Composite Course from November 9-12.   The famous venue was the scene of one of Hong Kong's greatest sporting moments at the weekend when Taichi Kho triumphed in the World City Championship presented by the Hong Kong Golf Club to become the first player from Hong Kong to win on the Asian Tour. The event marked the return of international tournament golf to the Special Administrative Region of China for the first time in 38 months and was especially significant as the hugely impressive Kho was announced as an ambassador for the club during the week.

Wade Ormsby, who sits second in the International Series Order of Merit, courtesy of his victory  at the International Series Thailand just three weeks ago, was the last player to win the Hong Kong Open, in January of 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the season to a premature conclusion. The Australian also claimed the event in 2017.   The 42-year-old, who has stated his aim to tee-up in all 10 of the International Series events in 2023 in pursuit of a return to the LIV Golf League, said: “To have a crack around a course I’ve had success at is fantastic. I’m really looking forward to it.”   Australians have enjoyed a rich vein of success at the Hong Kong Open, producing more winners than any other nation, with fellow antipodean victors including golf legends Greg Norman, Peter Thomson, and Kel Nagle plus Scott Hend, who is tied third for the most Asian Tour wins of all time with 10 victories   Past champions from further afield include Major winners Rory McIlroy (NIR), Justin Rose (ENG), Padraig Harrington (IRE), Jose Maria Olazabal (ESP), Bernhard Langer (GER), Ian Woosnam (WAL), and Orville Moody (USA).   The Hong Kong Open has been a pre-eminent event on the Asian Tour for decades and was first held in 1959. The HKGC has staged every edition.   Andy Kwok, Captain of the Hong Kong Golf Club , said: “This event has a proud history of welcoming golf’s leading talents from around the world, and in that sense shares values with The International Series, the expanded entry criteria for which makes this a compelling proposition for tour players around the world.”   Rahul Singh, Head of the International Series, said: “The International Series is an exciting new initiative, but part of its success has been its ability to build relationships with historic tournaments and events like the Hong Kong Open and the Hong Kong Golf Club.   “The International Series offers life-changing pathways for players and with the Hong Kong Open scheduled at the ‘business end’ of the year it will play a vital role in deciding which players make the coveted top 32 and qualify for the LIV Promotions Event.”   The International Series, introduced last year through a landmark investment by LIV Golf, sits within the Asian Tour schedule and has already seen three events this season in the Middle East and Thailand with the next tournament scheduled in April in Vietnam.   Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner & CEO, Asian Tour, said: “The Hong Kong Open’s return and its positioning as an International Series event is outstanding and adds another exciting dimension to the 2023 season, which has enjoyed such a successful start.   “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody at the Hong Kong Golf Association and the Hong Kong Golf Club for their support and we cannot wait to have yet another memorable Hong Kong Open in November.”

Programa Pro Spain Team: 14 años de apoyo al golfista profesional

                      

El Programa Pro Spain Team 2023, una iniciativa de la RFEG en colaboración con el Consejo Superior de Deportes, que persigue la formación y la ayuda a los golfistas de elite en sus primeros años en el campo profesional, alcanza su decimocuarta edición materializado en otro apoyo masivo: veintitrés golfistas de gran proyección bajo el paraguas de esta iniciativa, el tercer mayor número de integrantes –tras los 26 de la edición de 2021 y los 25 de 2022– desde que se instaurase en el año 2010.

 

Once mujeres y doce hombres, algunos de ellos protagonistas de muy buenos resultados en los distintos Circuitos a pesar de su evidente juventud, integran la nómina de golfistas seleccionados por el Comité de Profesionales de la RFEG para formar parte del citado Programa Pro Spain Team 2023.

 

El listado de golfistas seleccionados en este Programa Pro Spain Team 2023 incluye, en categoría masculina, a Ángel Hidalgo, Manuel Elvira, Víctor Pastor, Javier Sainz, Alejandro del Rey, Lucas Vacarisas, Víctor García Broto, Eduard Rousaud, Álvaro Hernández, Joel Moscatel –todos ellos ya formaban parte de la promoción del Programa Pro Spain Team 2022– y las nuevas incorporaciones de Quim Vidal y Jorge Maicas. Han causado baja con respecto a 2022 Santiago Tarrío, Mario Galiano e Iván Cantero.

 

Por su parte, en categoría femenina, se mantiene un bloque ya consolidado en 2022 integrado por Laura Gómez, Marta Martín, Harang Lee, Luna Sobrón, Fátima Fernández, Teresa Toscano, Elena Hualde, Paz Marfá, Ana Peláez y Marta Pérez. Al grupo se añade como novedad María Herráez, mientras que abandonan el programa, en ambos casos tras seis temporadas, María Parra y Elia Folch.

 

En total, un grupo uniforme de golfistas, caracterizados todos ellos por una sobresaliente trayectoria, que cuentan en 2023 con una ayuda que facilita su tránsito desde la etapa amateur y posibilita una incorporación más rápida a los Circuitos Profesionales más importantes.

 

Es preciso destacar que en el presente grupo de integrantes del Pro Spain Team 2023 hay dos golfistas con tarjeta en el DP World Tour (Alejandro del Rey y Ángel Hidalgo), seis en el Challenge Tour y cuatro en el Alps Tour que asimismo compatibilizan con el Challenge Tour.

Por su parte, en el grupo femenino, una jugadora cuenta con tarjeta en el LPGA, Luna Sobrón, en un año que puede ser clave en su desarrollo profesional. Otras siete disputarán torneos en el Circuito Europeo Femenino, mientras que dos tienen opción de jugar en el Epson Tour en lo que constituye una firme apuesta por proseguir sus carreras deportivas en Estados Unidos, mientras que María Herráez progresará en el LETAS con algunas incursiones en el LET.

 

Catorce ediciones de un Programa de éxito

 

Gonzaga Escauriaza, Presidente de la RFEG, dio la bienvenida a los asistentes a la Sala Luis Álvarez de Bohoques con un recordatorio de lo que es el programa. “Fue una idea brillante en su momento, porque nos dimos cuenta de que el paso de amateur a profesional es difícil y había que echar una mano. El CSD nos ayudó desde el primer día con un entusiasmo que nos contagia”, explicó.

 

A continuación tomó la palabra Jaime Salaverri, Vicepresidente Primero y Presidente del Comité de Profesionales de la RFEG, para adelantar algunos de los cambios que este año ha introducido el programa. “Le damos muchas vueltas a cómo mejorarlo, no estamos parados nunca, y por eso le planteamos al CSD la incorporación de nuevos elementos, como el novedoso programa de caddies que hemos creado. Y tenemos la gran suerte de que el CSD siempre nos apoya”, indicó.

 

Precisamente, estos cambios son los que detalló Ignacio Gervás, Director Deportivo de la RFEG, que básicamente son dos. “Hay varias novedades importantes. La primera, la implementación del programa de caddies. Es importante, porque creemos que hay que tener un caddie de calidad, ya que lo de recurrir a un padre o un amigo puede ralentizar la progresión del golfista. Por eso hemos decidido apoyarnos en tres caddies con experiencia –con Íñigo Urquizu a la cabeza– para ayudar a los integrantes del Pro Spain Team a sacar rendimiento a sus caddies. Es algo novedoso”.

 

“Por otro lado, vino Mike Kanski, mano derecha de Phil Kenyon, uno de los grandes maestros del juego corto a nivel mundial, a impartir un seminario a los jugadores. La experiencia ha sido muy buena, y la idea es que pueda hacer un seguimiento a lo largo del año”, continuó Gervás, que cerró su exposición añadiendo que los jugadores cuentan este curso con una nueva plataforma destinada al uso y recopilación de estadísticas. “Nuestros jugadores así lo reclamaban, y vamos en la dirección de intentar progresar en ese campo”, remató. 

 

Por su parte, Lola Tello, Técnico Deportivo del Consejo Superior de Deportes, recordó que el programa inició su andadura en 2010 “con nueve o diez deportistas, y echando la vista atrás vemos que por aquí han pasado Carlota Ciganda, Adri Arnaus, Nacho Elvira..., golfistas buenísimos. Creemos firmemente en este programa, y por eso lo seguiremos apoyando, porque hemos visto que funciona, somos conscientes de los frutos que da. Sólo os pido –dijo señalando a los golfistas– que lo aprovechéis al máximo y que estéis el menor tiempo posible, ya que eso será muy buena señal”.

 

Ana Peláez: “La invitación para jugar en Madrid me cambió la vida”

 

Ana Peláez y Quim Vidal ejercieron de representantes de los veintitrés integrantes del Programa Pro Spain Team 2023, y en esa función, con la mejor de las actitudes, relataron el punto de vista del deportista.

 

“El paso a profesional, por mucho que uno se prepare cuando es amateur, es siempre complicado, y sentir que formas parte de este programa, con la ayuda económica y de trabajo que te ofrece, es importantísimo. En mi caso, comencé teniendo acceso sólo al LETAS y Epson Tour, y gracias al Pro Spain me cambió la vida con la invitación para poder jugar en Madrid. Luego gané, y estoy muy agradecida”, señaló la malagueña, que cumple su segundo año como Pro Spain.

 

Quim Vidal, que ha debutado en el programa con éxito –ya ha ganado un torneo en el Alps Tour–, también halagó su funcionamiento. “Me habían hablado muy bien. Basta con ver los resultados para darte cuenta de que es un proyecto que es muy válido y funciona. En mi caso personal, tuve una semana mala en la Escuela, pero gracias al programa Pro Spain he tenido invitaciones para jugar el Alps. Aproveché la segunda y ahora puedo jugar el calendario completo”, narró.

 

Ayudas de índole económica, formativa y de gestión

 

Todos los integrantes del Pro Spain Team 2023 se benefician de un Programa que establece ayudas de índole económica –en función del Circuito que disputen habitualmente–, formativa –evaluación a cargo de técnicos TPI, preparadores físicos, etc– y de gestión –invitaciones a torneos, búsqueda de patrocinadores–. Asimismo pueden utilizar el Centro de Excelencia del Golf ubicado en la zona de prácticas del Centro Nacional, una instalación modélica que se sitúa en la vanguardia del golf mundial.

 

Es preciso destacar que, como contrapartida a la ayuda técnica y económica facilitada, los jugadores seleccionados se comprometen, entre otras cuestiones, a dedicar varias jornadas a iniciativas de la RFEG (ProAms, concentraciones de los equipos nacionales amateurs, etc), así como, en un futuro, a participar en los Open de España o Campeonatos de España de Profesionales siempre que sus obligaciones se lo permitan.

 

Azahara Muñoz, Carlota Ciganda, Jorge Campillo, Ignacio Elvira, Adrián Otaegui, Borja Virto, Pedro Oriol, Adriá Arnaus, Santiago Tarrío o Sebastián García, por poner algunos ejemplos, constituyen un claro ejemplo de proyección deportiva desde su formación desde la base hasta su inclusión en este Programa, que este año cuenta entre sus integrantes con golfistas que, ya en 2022, consiguieron muy buenos resultados en los distintos Circuitos Profesionales.

Fireballs GC, featuring captain Sergio Garcia, Abraham Ancer, Eugenio Chacarra and Carlos Ortiz, captured the team win while Danny Lee of Iron Heads GC sank a thrilling birdie putt on the final round’s third playoff hole to claim the individual title.   Now, 48 of the world’s best golfers travel to Orange County National in Florida for the league’s third event of the season, LIV Golf Orlando, March 31-April 2.   Showcasing many of the sport’s biggest names, LIV Golf’s 12 teams include reigning Open Champion Cameron Smith, World Golf Hall of Famer Phil Mickelson, two-time major winner Dustin Johnson and four-time major winner Brooks Koepka. The field of 48 players represents 16 different nations, includes 18 Olympians, and has made 125 combined appearances in the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, with more than half of the league having competed in the biennial team events. In total, LIV Golf League players have amassed 530 worldwide wins across multiple tours, and four players have held the title of World No. 1.   This is the first official season of the LIV Golf League, with a 14-tournament schedule being hosted in seven different countries at some of the world’s top courses.
