Major winner Lexi Thompson is on the hunt for her first Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF title

This year's Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF boasts a star-studded field of Major winners, Solheim Cup heroes, and golf’s rising stars as Lexi Thompson, Carlota Ciganda and Trichat Cheenglab top the billing.

As Riyadh continues to become the Kingdom’s cultural and sporting hub, the Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF will make its debut in the capital. The event continues to set the standard globally with a prize purse of $5 million USD, which equals the payout of the men's PIF Saudi International. This marks a significant milestone in golf, as it stands as the largest event to achieve pay parity between the men's and women's equivalent competitions.

Major winner Lexi Thompson narrowly missed out on the chance to lift the Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF trophy in 2023. Two-time Major winner, Lydia Ko, finished two shots ahead of Thompson to seal the title as the American finished T3, alongside Lilia Vu and Manon De Roey.

American Lexi Thompson heads the field at Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF

No stranger to performing under pressure, Thompson was thrust into the limelight at just 12 years old, when she became the youngest player to compete in the US Women’s Open. The American will tee it up in Riyadh with her eyes set on the Kingdom’s most prestigious women’s golf title, and her third Ladies European Tour (LET) win.

On returning to Saudi Arabia, Lexi Thompson remarked: “The Aramco Saudi Ladies International signifies a significant step forward in advancing the sport, not just in Saudi Arabia but on a global scale, and it's a privilege to be part of an event that advocates for equal prize funds in golf.

“My determination is stronger than ever to exceed my 2023 finish and secure my first Aramco Saudi Ladies International title, this time at a new course for me, and a new city in Riyadh.”

Thompson will be joined in the field by Solheim Cup rival, Carlota Ciganda, the Spanish sensation who had an unforgettable 2023, recording a T3  finish in the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and sinking the winning putt in her home country to retain the Solheim Cup title for Team Europe.

Golf Saudi ambassador Carlota Ciganda looks to replicate her previous triumph at Riyadh Golf Club

Back in October, Ciganda led her team to victory at the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Riyadh with a staggering –43 at Riyadh Golf Club and is now looking to add a first Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF trophy to her impressive collection, which includes the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Florida individual trophy.

With an eye on achieving even more in 2024, Carlota Ciganda said: "Riyadh Golf Club holds a special place in my heart, especially after leading my team to victory at the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Riyadh.  Now, stepping back onto this course, I'm eager to channel that same energy and aim for another triumph.

“The continued prize fund equality with the men’s event is a testament to Golf Saudi’s commitment to elevating the game and driving pay parity across golf. This sets the stage for a future where gender equality in golf is not just an aspiration but a reality, and I am proud to be part of an event that advocates for equality in golf."

The LET OOM winner Trichat Cheenglab maker her debut at Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF

Emerging Thai star, Trichat Cheenglab, joins the events roster after cementing her name on the LET in her first season on the Tour last year. The Race to Costa del Sol champion and Rookie of the Year 2023 will challenge the world’s best at her first Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF event.

Trichat Cheenglab, the 2023 LET Order of Merit winner, expressed: "Joining the lineup is an honour, and I am excited to compete at my first Aramco Saudi Ladies International. It’s a prestigious event with a prize fund that is driving conversations in sport forwards. I am here to make my mark, learn from the best, and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of women's golf in Saudi Arabia."

The Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF remains at the forefront of setting new benchmarks in the golf world, exemplifying Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to fostering the growth and global recognition of women's sports. The stage is set for the sport's best to engage in a fierce competition to claim the historic prize purse.

The Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF is set to make its debut in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, from the 15-18 February 2024.

The groundbreaking event offers an eyewatering $5 million prize fund, the largest prize fund on the Ladies European Tour (LET), matching the men’s equivalent, the PIF Saudi International.

In 2023 at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, Lydia Ko secured her second Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF title with a stellar final round, posting a four-under 68 to finish with an impressive 21-under.

Now heading to Riyadh, the Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF will look to build on the momentum from the successful Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Riyadh, which was the first ever professional golf tournament in the capital.

The event will be hosted at Riyadh Golf Club for the first time following the success of Aramco Team Series presented by PIF - Riyadh in October 2023

Almost 5,000 spectators visited a refurbished Riyadh Golf Club in October 2023 to see Alison Lee set LET records in a stunning win, as the appetite for elite level golf in Saudi Arabia continues to rise at pace.

Noah Alireza, CEO of Golf Saudi, expressed: "The Aramco Saudi Ladies International has made historic strides since its inception and sets the standard for driving equality in golf with a prize fund which matches the equivalent men’s event.

“Bringing the tournament to Riyadh in 2024 marks a significant step forward for the development of women's golf in the Kingdom, showcasing a highly competitive field to a new audience of enthusiasts.”

"As the tournament unfolds at Riyadh Golf Club, we look forward to welcoming eager spectators once again who will witness the continued empowerment of women in golf.”

Golf Saudi aspires to be a catalyst for the growth of the game – locally and globally – and, since inception in 2019, has been a key supporter of women's golf, building a legacy within the Kingdom to encourage, enable and inspire future generations to take up the sport.

Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF will continue to match the $5 million USD prize fund of the men's PIF Saudi International

Alexandra Armas, CEO of Ladies European Tour, said: "The Aramco Saudi Ladies International marks a historic milestone for women's golf, championing equal prize funds and showcasing the incredible talents of our players to a growing audience of sports fans.

“As we look forward to a fantastic spectacle in Riyadh, where the standard of golf will be incredibly high, it's important to underline the significance of this event, which offers the highest purse on our international schedule outside the Majors and will inspire both men and women to play and enjoy golf worldwide.”

Witness history unfold as the Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF takes centre stage at Riyadh Golf Club, 15-18 February 2024, with the strong field of golf’s global stars set to be unveiled soon.

Major winners Garcia and McDowell head up all-star field at International Series Macau presented by Wynn

Major winners Sergio Garcia and Graeme McDowell are the first two golfing superstars confirmed to tee it up at the inaugural International Series Macau presented by Wynn, taking place at Macau Golf & Country Club from 14-17 March.

Masters champion Garcia, who won the famous green jacket at Augusta National in 2017, will line up alongside US Open 2010 winner McDowell, with LIV Golf’s Crushers GC player Anirban Lahiri and Hong Kong youngster Taichi Kho, the Asian Games gold medal winner, also set to feature in a strong field as Macau makes its debut on The International Series.

Top international talent from the Asian Tour will also be battling it out for the $US2 million purse. Thailand’s Sarit Suwannarut, New Zealander Ben Campbell and India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar, the final three winners on last year’s calendar of 10 elevated events, are in the field.

Garcia, who has claimed a remarkable 36 tournament wins worldwide, including six on the Asian Tour in China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, said: “I’ve always enjoyed playing in the region throughout my career, and I’m excited about playing in Macau and competing against some genuine talent from the Asian Tour.”

The Ryder Cup legend, who is now the captain of the all-Spanish Fireballs GC on the LIV Golf League, added: “I’ve heard a lot about the venue and how excited some of the players are about it, so it would be great to pick up another win in Asia here.”

Former Ryder Cup team-mate and new Smash GC member McDowell, who triumphed in Macau last November at a spectacular rooftop challenge to unveil the inaugural International Series Macau presented by Wynn, added: “I am excited to be back in the Vegas of Asia.

“It’s an amazing destination, and as soon as I saw the calendar, I pencilled it in. It fits my schedule well and like other events on The International Series, playing in a strong field at a world-class destination gives me a wonderful opportunity to stay sharp and competitive.”

The tournament is the second of 10 elevated events on the Asian Tour that offer increased prize funds, world-class destinations, and a pathway to the LIV Golf League for golfers from all over the globe through its season-long rankings system. It follows the International Series Oman on the schedule, and is the fourth event of the Asian Tour season.

Rahul Singh, Head of The International Series, said: “Bringing The International Series to Macau is a milestone moment, and it is fitting that we can confirm Sergio and Graeme, two Major winners, among a strong field for our first ever event here.

“The International Series Macau presented by Wynn is a perfect fit for our model and another example of the growth and success of our brand.

“We are committed to bringing elite-level golf to international markets and offering players from around the globe the chance to compete with the best players on the Asian Tour, at incredible destinations, for elevated prize purses and a pathway onto LIV Golf.”

ADRIAN MERONK AND LUCAS HERBERT HEADLINE ADDITIONAL ROSTER UPDATES FOR 2024 LIV GOLF LEAGUE SEASON

LIV Golf today announced new player signings and promoted player team assignments ahead of the season-opening event, LIV Golf Mayakoba, hosted at El Camaleon Golf Course in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Following yesterday's unveiling of Legion XIII, three other teams – Cleeks GC, Iron Heads GC, and Ripper GC – have announced their 2024 rosters including the signings of Adrian Meronk (Cleeks GC) and Lucas Herbert (Ripper GC). Additionally, two Wild Card spots have been added to the 2024 field, where Wild Card players will compete each tournament independent of any team for individual prizes and the season-long Individual Championship race.

ROSTER UPDATES

After their performances at the inaugural LIV Golf Promotions event in Abu Dhabi last December, qualifiers Kalle Samooja (Cleeks GC) and Jinichiro Kozuma (Iron Heads GC) have been confirmed for their respective teams. Additionally, Laurie Canter will play as a Wild Card at the first two tournaments, while Hudson Swafford will be a full-season Wild Card. Announcements on future Wild Card spots will be announced ahead of the events.

CLEEKS GC – ADRIAN MERONK (POLAND), KALLE SAMOOJA (FINLAND)

MERONK – The 2023 DP World Tour Player of the Year, Meronk has established himself as one of the top European players in the world. Selected to compete in the Tokyo Olympics, he also became the first Polish player to earn membership on the DP World Tour and consequently made history with his victory at the 2022 Horizon Irish Open by becoming the first player from Poland to win on the DP World Tour.

“I’m really looking forward to the new challenge and next chapter of my career as I team up with Martin and the Cleeks,” said Meronk. “While I appreciate this decision didn’t come easy, joining LIV Golf is a very special moment for my career. The 2023 season made me feel that despite all of my successes, 287 days a year which I spent away from home is too many. The LIV schedule gives me more time with my loved ones and more space to work on every aspect of my game. While on LIV, I will remain passionately dedicated to supporting the next generation of golf in Poland."

SAMOOJA – The champion at 2023 LIV Golf Promotions, Samooja has tallied 12 professional victories over his career. He is just the sixth Finnish golfer all-time to win on the European Tour, winning the 2022 European Open and representing Finland at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

RIPPER GC – LUCAS HERBERT (AUSTRALIA)

HERBERT – The Aussie has four professional wins, three on the European Tour and one on the PGA Tour, including a 2021 Bermuda Championship win over current LIV Golf members Patrick Reed and Danny Lee. Has made 14 major championship starts, with his best finish coming as a tie for 13th at the 2022 PGA Championship.

“I’m very excited to team up with Cam on the all-Aussie Ripper GC squad this season. This is an incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to begin this part of my career,” said Herbert. “I’m looking forward to teeing it up this week in Mayakoba and of course playing in front of our home country crowd in Adelaide in a few months.”

IRON HEADS GC – JINICHIRO KOZUMA (JAPAN)

KOZUMA – Having made three starts in the inaugural 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series, two for Torque GC and one for Smash GC, Kozuma is primed to make his official full-season debut this year. Having notched four professional victories (all from Japan), Kozuma’s signing makes Iron Heads GC the first team to represent four different continents.

WILD CARDS – LAURIE CANTER (ENGLAND), HUDSON SWAFFORD (USA)

SWAFFORD – A member of LIV Golf during the 2022 Invitational Series, Swafford has notched three PGA Tour victories and in 2020 achieved a ranking of No.2 in the FedEx Cup rankings. Following his absence last year due to injury, the American aims to take advantage of another full-time opportunity with LIV Golf this season.

CANTER – A reserve player for the bulk of last season on Majesticks GC, Canter narrowly missed out on a full-time spot this season after his efforts at LIV Golf Promotions. The Brit produced a breakthrough season in 2020 after finishing 19th in the Race to Dubai following five Top 10 performances including two runner-up finishes at the Portugal Masters and Italian Open. Also, a member of the LIV Golf Invitational Series in 2022.

LIV Golf competition begins Friday in Mexico, the kickoff to the league’s 14 tournament schedule in new and returning markets across the world.
